PECO: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

PECO might be the one Philadelphian company that I actually admit to loving.

Last night, around 7:30, my power suddenly shut off! Immediately I asumed it had to do with the fact that I hadn't paid my bill... like ever. So I called PECO to report the outage even though I figured I just needed to pay my bill, which I did that moment with what was left of my laptop's battery. On top of that, it was only $70! Considering I never paid it, I was amazed at how cheap months' worth of electricity was.

THEN I get a call no more than twenty minutes later after I'd resigned to the fact that I would need to go to bed and wait the two business days until my payment is reflected. It was a PECO guy! He was in the neighborhood apparently and told me PECO doesn't shut anyone off this time of year, which rules.

Turns out I blew my circuit with the heavy duty space heater I got for Christmas. Oops!
But thanks, PECO.

Current Youtube Faves

Hello, faithful readers and adoring fans! The hiatus is over.
What were we doing for roughly a month? Watching Youtube videos of course:

C'mon Son! So clutch, these videos. Ed Lover hilariously presents commentary on current events.
Must watch all! C'mon, son.

Taylor Lautner's SNL Monologue. One word: epic.
We think he's super qt so it doesn't matter that he and his girlfriend share the same first name. Actually, it's still kind of creepy.

"Uh Huh" and "Sweet Ballad," respectively, by Munchausen by Proxy! Okay, it's Zooey Deschanel's fake band from the movie Yes Man. It's the best part of the movie and honestly, "Sweet Ballad" gets stuck in my head constantly.

What a trip!

The Madonna Inn is a retro-assorted themed hotel that provides guests a unique stay no matter what room is given. The Madonna Inn is located in San Luis Obispo, California. Madonnas first twelve rooms were ready to go Christmas eve, 1959 and happened to be given it's first nights stay, complimentary, to a group of travelers. In 1960 twenty-eight more rooms were built, totaling to 40 rooms. These days 110 rooms are available with such insane creative touches. Many rooms are named after certain cities, or states, even sole descriptions of the feeling the room is evoking. Wallpaper plays a large roll along with fabric and vibrant carpet colors, bed frames, lamps, artwork, and abstract furniture you have probably never seen before- it will blow your mind. Amazing is all i can say. I will go here one day and bask in the time warping walls this Inn has miraculously captured.

Here's a little taste of what you'll find.

Vintage Beauties!

Just a little taste...
A personal fav. below, how mod how lovely.

1968 Bill Blass- Ivory lace over nude lining wedding dress.

1915- Wedding dress, which is incredibly modernized thanks to flower details which appear to be sewn on & that lattice-like work is so sexy.

1950- Jacques Fath, Ivory silk. Ugh, love.

1960- Sarmi beige and silver party dress!

I want this! Piet Indoor Stove.

This is so great! It's an indoor stove and burns ethanol instead of wood, thus no smoke and such mess. By Fredrik Hylten-Cavallius.

Haha, go Bobby!

The television in my living room offers me one good channel, the Food Network. It used to have HGTV, too, but for some reason it mysteriously disappeared on me a few months ago, much to my dismay.

Since I watch the Food Network, I see Bobby Flay a bit. So, when I saw a video of Bobby Flay grilling steaks with Obama, I was thrilled. Apparently, this was for Father's day. Cute!

Michael, love

I'm not really going to say much about Michael Jackson's shocking and tragic passing. Just that I find it ironic that after years of intense criticism and stalking, the media is finally kissing his ass. Fuck the media. Anyway, I had to get that off my chest.

Everyone knows he is the greatest entertainer to ever live and yesterday was truly the day the music died. If you didn't like his music, not only are you lame, but you have to admit that his music has been in your life at some point or other, in your memories, etc. I remember listening to a Jackson Five cassette tape in my dad's car when he drove me to daycare. There are many other memories, but that is the most prominent.

As a tribute, I have put together a collection of pictures and my personal favorite videos and songs of his. Enjoy, bbs.

Epic Father's Day Dinner!

This weekend I went home to see my family for Father's Day. My mom is in Italy for work at the moment, so I decided that I would cook my dad a Father's Day feast since he would probably just take us out to eat. I found that option unacceptable.

My mother recently brought home some saffron from Bahrain. She had no idea what to use it in, so she wanted me to send her a recipe. I found a recipe for Moroccan Chicken Skewers through Tastespotting, my food Mecca. This is kind of a cop-out, as I prepped the chicken the day before I made it and forgot to take pictures. It was easy- I just mixed together saffron, cumin, coriander, garlic, cinnamon, paprika, parsley, chopped almonds, and some olive oil. Oh, and a little lemon juice, as I didn't have the preserved lemon rinds or whatever the recipe calls for. Or the tumeric. Once mixed, I rubbed it all over the chicken and put it in a plastic bag to marinade overnight.

The next day, I assembled the chicken, green olives, and a slice of lemon on skewers that I had soaking in water. It looked like this:

Why Does American Apparel Have to Be So Whack?

No lie, a majority of hipsters piss me off. That being said, every time I like something from the uber-hipster American Apparel, I feel a little weird. Luckily for me, though, that is pretty rare.
I definitely like the idea of AA and their whole philosophy on paying fair wages and how they treat their employees and all that. Oh, except for the fact that CEO Dov Charney is a totally sexually harassing nightmare. Yeah, I wrote a paper on him for a class last year and it's enough to make you want to vom, considering he looks like this:

I mean, really.

Hussies desperate cries for attention: FASHION NO NO!

EXAMPLE A:
Girls, don't be a trashy cat like example A,
there is a RIGHT way to wear these jumper shorts that doesn't include attempting to pull off j-lo circa 2000

EXAMPLE B:
See the diff here? No sagging tits, no trying too hard either because no one appreciates a shorts jumper worn like a true whore :)

Nicole Landaw Jewelry

Based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Nicole Landaw launched her jewelry collection in 2004. She won some awards, all deserved of course. I covet her jewelry, even the creepy spider piece that I don't really know the purpose of. Anyway, I'll stop talking (typing), you can see it for yourself:

Websites!

Hey.

It's been a while. How are you? I'm good. Sorry I haven't written, I've just been busy. You know how it is.

Sike, I have not been busy. For the past few weeks or whatever I've just been floating along the internet, from website to website. I have seen cool ones, wack ones, informative ones, and pointless ones. So I figured I'd share the ones I like!

I like this site. People upload cool drawings, photos, graphic designs, etc. that they find. There are a lot of great artists' work on there, so it's great for finding new ones.

TasteSpotting
This website is an obsession. Constantly updated by members of the community, there is a plethora of food porn available to people who love food, love to make food, or just love anything relating at all to food. It has a search option, which is totally convenient if you want to find a cool new recipe for something in particular. Last night, I found a great recipe for tilapia for Good Friday. Even if you're not planning on making anything, like me, it's a great way to pass the time.. and work up an appetite.

TasteSpotting used to be affiliated with the NotEmpire, but no longer I see. They're the same format, but NotCot is for pretty much everything, rather than food. Anyway, NotCot is sweet because members are also constantly updating with posts ranging from architecture, art, cool things to buy, wtc. You get the picture. The NotEmpire consists of more niche websites, like Liqurious for alcohol-related posts and drink recipes, NotCouture for fashion, and some other websites that I don't really understand the point of. Check it out.

OhNoTheyDidn't!
My favorite source of celebrity gossip/news. It's a community on LiveJournal.com, which no lie I certainly had in high school. This site is awesome not because it is constantly constantly updated, but because the comments made by the users are priceless. I can't recall any exact ones, but trust, these are some funny people. Plus, it's way better than Perez Hilton, an object of my disaffection... but that's for an entirely different post.

So yeah, I hope you enjoy!

Man Candy: Michael Ealy

Michael Ealy, for those of you whom have not yet noticed, is 100% pure sex. He was the best part about the Barbershop movies, he dated Halle Berry for a while, and, apparently, has an English degree.
I think I remember something Oprah said about how she basically agrees with me, as he had some sexy make out sesh with Halle Berry in Their Eyes Were Watching God, a picture of which I show you here:
But the reason for this post, for my sudden inspiration to mention him as Man Candy, is that while I was taking a break from homework I found myself stuck watching Beyonce videos on YouTube (shock) and realized that he is in the video for "Halo." I've watched it like four times or so, ahem.
A friend of mine told me she met him at the premier of Seven Pounds, which I find unlikely as my face probably would have melted from his insane hotness were I to get within ten feet of him.

That is all.

When I heard about this, I felt sick.

So I was sitting in class this morning reading today's Metro and I came across a little gem of information:
"State Rep. Mark Cohen said Wednesday that he will introduce a bill as soon as next month to legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania."
Oh, word State Rep. Mark Cohen? That's pretty cool. The article goes on to say that Cohen believes the bill has a 50-50 chance of passing. You might be wondering, why does he believe this? It seems that Cohen is getting a large amount of support from people on Facebook and PhillyBlog. Shocking, I know.

Now excuse me, I have to go tend to my glaucoma/eating disorder/insomnia/anxiety/cancer, etc.

65 Modern Proverbs

Nikki Farquharson updated some old proverbs, and they're pretty clever, in my opinion.
